More than two hundred professionals who share a huge passion for technology. Every day we work at the frontiers of technology in one of the most challenging industries in the world: space. We do that by thinking creatively in terms of solutions and by working smartly with like-minded partners.
Our solar arrays, satellite instruments and structures for launchers are among the best in the world. They make missions vital for our everyday life on earth possible, such as satellite navigation, communication, climate research and the ongoing monitoring of air quality. We are proud of the crucial contribution our technology makes to these missions.
Airbus Netherlands designs and builds structures for the launchers used to lift-off satellites into space. These structures must be lightweight but still capable of carrying heavy and complex loads. We are using our years of experience and the knowledge we have acquired to make new things possible in this field.
Without our technology, the Ariane launchers cannot leave the ground. We designed the Interstage 1/2 of the Vega rocket and the engine thrust frame for Ariane 5, and we are also involved in the future Ariane 6 launcher. From the design and development to testing and production in series, we possess the knowledge needed.
Besides launcher structures we also develop structures for satellites and instruments. Increasingly from composite materials to reduce weight. Our engineers like a challenge. Each design is realised as lightly and strongly as possible for the lowest possible costs.
NLR has been an ambitious applied research organisation for over 100 years, driven to make aerospace more sustainable, safer, efficient and effective through innovation. To that end, the company offer specific, innovative solutions and technical expertise. NLR has a state-of-the-art research infrastructure and field labs, simulators and wind tunnels and works in an objective and independent manner, for and with (inter)national industry and government. NLR contributes to a safer and more sustainable society while strengthening the competitive position of the Dutch industry. Using this approach, NLR plays a pivotal role between science, industry and government at home and abroad, bridging the gap between fundamental research and practical applications. In the field of aerospace, we are the strategic partner of the Dutch government and Defence, and whether we work for SMEs or large international companies, our commitment is the same for every project. Together with our partners, we contribute to shaping the fascinating world of tomorrow.
At the Marknesse site the visitor will have a chance to visit the Automated Fibre Placement (AFP), Thermoplastic press and stamp forming, Induction welding and high performance polymer printing. Also a visit to our test house is planned to see the latest developments in NDI inspections and testing at Cryogenic (20K) temperatures. The visitor will have a chance to learn more the organization and become aware about the latest NLR research into these fields.
GKN Fokker is a specialist in the design, development and manufacture of lightweight structures for the civil and defense markets. Specialisms at the Hoogeveen site are thermoplastic composites and filament winding and high speed machining.
The visit will start with a presentation on company activities and on thermoplastic composite developments. Then, one of the manufacturing locations in Hoogeveen will be visited. At this site, control surfaces for several aircraft are assembled by welding. Finally, GKN’s new Global Technology Center will be visited. Here, the newest technologies are under development.
SAM XL (Smart Advanced Manufacturing XL) is a manufacturing automation expertise centre that forms a unique liaison between TU Delft faculties, the industry and suppliers. We develop software and hardware to enhance the intelligence, connectivity and flexibility of industrial robots. This robot technology for executing complex and varied tasks on large structures is validated and demonstrated in our industrial-scale automation lab. We also provide hands-on training for students and staff from our industry and research partners, to uplift their digital skills in executing automation projects.
Ever since its founding in 1995, Airborne has showed it is able to create solutions and think beyond given restrictions of qualification rules and regulations. For instance, by developing industrialized manufacturing lines for thermoplastic composite pipes, used at 3000 meter depth. Nowadays Airborne is the world’s first and leading company in this field, while expanding this highly-specialized knowledge to other markets and industries.
KVE Composites Group is a unique design and build organization of high-end composite structures located in the Netherlands, supported by a well-established parent company Daher Aerospace. KVE’s strength is the in-depth knowledge of composite engineering, materials and manufacturing processes, in combination with a creative mind to provide the right solutions for their customers.
