SAMPE Nordic

Welcome to the SAMPE Nordic Club

The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) is an international organization devoted to the promotion of technical excellence in material and process engineering, totaling more than 4000 engineers, technologists and materials scientists. It has been founded in 1944 by Californian aerospace engineers with the goal to build a professional network and improve the exchange of technical information. Since those times SAMPE has spread all over the world and is divided in about 40 chapters. SAMPE has also achieved an international reputation as a registered private body.

In Europe we have activities in more than 25 countries, organized predominantly in national associations like France, Germany, Italy, and Ukraine, sometimes also in international groups like Benelux, Ibérica, or UK & Ireland.

SAMPE Nordic, founded in 2025, integrates experts and enthusiasts from Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.

The main target is to unite and develop the relevant industrial fields, education, and academic research over the Nordic countries. Under the SAMPE umbrella – SAMPE Nordic integrates efficiently to the European as well as global network of material advancement and process engineering.

SAMPE Nordic pursues to organize events, filter and share important information, organize plant visits, unite piloting opportunities, and support the field via common activities of SAMPE Europe.

Online series: Nordic-Italian aerospace collaboration

SAMPE Europe Student competition and seminar

Objectives

  • Introduce students studying in the fields of Materials and Process Science or Engineering to SAMPE
  • Develop a future generation of SAMPE members
  • Create the nucleus of a future M&P network in Europe

Principles

  • The activity offers students the opportunity to become acquainted with the work of their colleagues in other European countries
  • The SAMPE Students Seminar held in conjunction with the SAMPE Europe International Conference is an excellent opportunity to show the students the SAMPE network
  • The students program is organized in such a way that a coherent student group is formed during the conference week
  • Students offer assistance in main SAMPE Europe Conference, and show posters of their work during the Conference
  • Students are selected from European countries by the local SAMPE Chapters or Clubs, and increasingly by local student’s seminars

Previous participation from Nordic countries

  • 2024 (M.Sc. st.): Jesse Savolainen (Tampere University)
  • 2023 (PhD st.): Pauli Hakala (Tampere University)
  • 2023 (M.Sc. st.): Franziska Mews (Tampere University
  • 2022 (M.Sc. st.): Pradeep Ramanan (Tampere University)
  • 2020 (M.Sc. st.): Ovidio Colmenero (Aalto University)
  • 2019 (M.Sc. st.): Lauri Jutila (Tampere University)

SAMPE Student activity 2025

  • M.Sc. and Ph.d. students can contact the SAMPE Nordic president and ask more details about the abstract of (M.Sc. Or Ph.d) thesis or ongoing research topic
  • Teachers and professors in all the Nordic countries are encouraged to introduce this opportunity to their students and help in making the abstract
  • SAMPE will fully fund the travelling and the stay at SAMPE Student competition and fee to SAMPE Europe conference

Professional Networks

National Nordic polymer and composite societies with organizational membership:

History

  • SAMPE Nordic was preceded by SAMPE Finland Club
  • SAMPE Finland (Ry) was officially founded in 1995 in Espoo, Finland
  • SAMPE Finland Club focused especially on industrial networking and development of composite materials and manufacture of composite products
  • SAMPE Finland organized summer courses, free time events, seminars, and plant visits
  • The board of SAMPE Finland launched an initiative project in 2023 about the potential of having a united SAMPE Nordic chapter
  • The transformation towards SAMPE Nordic was officially approved by the members of SAMPE Finland Club 2024
